Work Experience Documented #1: Sutton Infant School (October 2021)

Image
- Details of the placement, including where, contact, duration and reason / link to creative enterprise. I was requested by my sister on behalf of Sutton Infant School to create a media product for one of their classes of children. The reasoning for the school commissioning me for this was due to a situation where a parent of a child catching Covid-19 caused a zoo trip that was supposed to happen being cancelled, and as a result, I was requested to create "some kind of slideshow or video" for the children based on the childrens' drawings and photos of animals they liked, using assets supplied to me from them (the drawings, photos and texts seen in the video). Once this was complete, the video was watched in the class instead of the trip, which I was later told the teachers and children were very happy with. - Risk assessment for location(s) visited - this should be obtained from the organisation / employer ahead of the placement, and can be requested by yourselves or thro...

Rebranding Excercise

Image
Company chosen - GEICO My Rebrand Logo Current Logo Mission Statement: "To provide affordable and dependable direct auto insurance to drivers across the United States, while also representing our customers in their time of need following an accident" Explained: The colours I have used are purple and light blue, due to blue representing 'respect' and 'purple representing control' & 'rescue' according to some online colour emotion guides, which are some of the things the company values based on their mission statement. The arrow in the background represents being there around the clock to help out their customers, no matter the time of day. The funky font is to connect the company more to its famous advertising campaigns, including the gecko, which was a much more interesting and stand-out feature than the boring, normal logo that exists for them alongside it currently.

Task 3: Business plans and models

Image
What is a business plan? In simple terms, a business 'plan' is the planned future objectives and strategies that will hopefully lead to achieving said objectives set out in a document form. A business plan is extremely important, needed in order to present the company's strategy and expectations for the financial performance of the business in the near (or potentially far) future. Business plans do not need to be written extremely formally, or include lots of complicated business related jargon and phrasing; all a good plan needs to do is describe the current position and state of the company, plus what the ideal place for the business to be in in the future, how it will work then and how you intend to get the company from where it is now to where you want it to be. Plans like this can be made for multiple varying purposes, either just to simply have an idea of where you want to be heading towards and how, or to be shown to external people like banks or other potential inve...

Foley Exercise (Back to the Future Opening)

Image
Evaluation: This part of the course was the first piece of 'foley' work (defined on Google as "the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to films, videos, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality") I had ever taken part in. That being said, I very much enjoyed every step of it, including the actual planning and making of the sound effects, to the applying of them to the accompanying video on Premiere Pro. The class all worked as a team to come up with ideas for what sound effects were going to be needed and what should be used to recreate them accurately, then getting everyone to go off and create some of them, which I feel like I did a good job of helping with, making a decent amount of them. The files were then uploaded onto a shared OneDrive file so everybody could access, with some of them being named properly before being uploaded, and some needing to be listened to and renamed once already up, which admittedly should have been ...

Demographic Research

Image
For the following, research and analyse the materials you find: 3 Prints adverts that advertise shoes to an older demographic: The amount of colours used in these adverts is quite minimal, with darker ones, like brown, black or red taking up a lot of them for example. They are also often much more straight to the point than adverts for younger demographics are, using catchphrases much less often and simply explaining in a short sentence what is good about the product. 3 Prints adverts that advertise shoes to a younger demographic: One of the biggest stand-outs from adverts for children is often the amount of colour used, specifically bright ones in order to be more eye catching to younger demographics. The art featured is also often quite silly, appealing to the minds of younger people and their interests, likely encouraging their parents to purchase the product simply due to them liking the mascots of the brand for example. Not much text and writing is included on the adverts either, ...

Vision and Mission Statements*

Vision:  Def - a vivid mental image of what you want your business to be at some point in the future (long term), based on your goals and aspirations. This captures, in writing, the essence of where you want to take your business, and can inspire you and your staff to reach your goals. Should be "inspirational and aspirational" IGN: "To provide fans with the best gaming and entertainment-related content and collectibles online" My Evaluation: I believe this is a good mission statement for they type of business IGN runs - short and simple yet effective. The company wants to be known in some aspects as the "best" at what they do, which can be considered a big aspiration, while also wanting to be the best in something which isn't objective, entertaining. LambdaFilms: "This isn’t a job, it’s a passion - We produce all sorts, but we truly thrive when working on projects that make a difference to people, and the world. My Evaluation: In terms of being i...

Task 2: Types of business in the UK

Investigate and identify the various types of business in the UK: - Sole traders This is a business type common among people who are first starting up their business. This involves running it as an individual, becoming self-employed as a result, allowing you to keep all profits made for yourself (once tax has been paid on them of course). On the other end of this however, you will also become personally responsible for any losses that may be made from the business. - Limited companies If a business is formed as a Limited Company (often indicated by an 'Ltd.' in a name), the finances of said enterprise are separated from the personal finances of those involved as a result. However, this does come with more managing an reporting responsibilities when compared to some other business types. Some people, due to this, decide to get a professional, such as an accountant, to help them out with these parts of the business, but a company of this form can still be set up solo. - Partnersh...

They do this across multiple places on the internet, including social media sites such as Instagram and Twitter, video sites like YouTube, and even their own dedicated website.
