Foley Exercise (Back to the Future Opening)
Evaluation:
This part of the course was the first piece of 'foley' work (defined on Google as "the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to films, videos, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality") I had ever taken part in. That being said, I very much enjoyed every step of it, including the actual planning and making of the sound effects, to the applying of them to the accompanying video on Premiere Pro. The class all worked as a team to come up with ideas for what sound effects were going to be needed and what should be used to recreate them accurately, then getting everyone to go off and create some of them, which I feel like I did a good job of helping with, making a decent amount of them. The files were then uploaded onto a shared OneDrive file so everybody could access, with some of them being named properly before being uploaded, and some needing to be listened to and renamed once already up, which admittedly should have been labelled and sorted better prior to uploading and creating complications when it came to the downloading and editing phase of the project. In terms of the actual editing though, which each of us did independently, I feel like I did a pretty good job when it came to synchronising the audio files with the visuals for the most part, but there were a couple parts, such as the dials at the end of the video and the skateboard hitting the box, which weren't so much and did seem a little off. Throughout, I did most of the audio editing I did (such as putting a filter on the radio audio) within Premiere itself, when admittedly it might have been better for my own skills development to use Adobe Audition more often so I could get used to that programme more for future. As an overall video though, I believe that for my first attempt of a foley exercise, it ended up pretty good, with some sound effects sounding more out of place than others at times though admittedly.
